Why, oh why did the chickens cross the road on that DARK HALLOWEEN NIGHT? This MACABRE scene is the third and last in a series of three original FRIGHTFULLY fun and flavorful BLACK bean spaghetti recipes developed for my friends at Explore Cuisine.

The BLOODY MUTILATED MESS of DEAD chickens, BLACK bean spaghetti, and white carrot BONES in a spicy arrabiata sauce is actually DEVILISHLY DELICIOUS while simultaneously HORRIFIC to behold.

GRISLY ROADKILL Spaghetti will SHOCK your friends and family with its sweet, salty, spicy flavors and GRUESOME presentation.

Sweet & Salty Angry Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

  • 8 chicken wings
  • 8 oz. hoisin sauce
  • 2 T. low-sodium gluten-free tamari
  • 1 T. dark sesame oil
  • 1 t. Chinese 5 spice
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • superfine sugar
  • black sesame seeds

Method:

In a large bowl, combine hoisin sauce, tamari, sesame oil, Chinese 5 spice, and black pepper. Add chicken wings and toss to coat with the sauce. Marinate 1 hour refrigerated, stirring occasionally.

Arrange chicken so that wings are extended, on a sheet pan covered with aluminum foil. Roast at 350°F for about 20 minutes. Remove the pan from oven and sprinkle chicken with superfine sugar. Place under broiler to caramelize the sugar. Immediately sprinkle with black sesame seeds.

White Carrot Bones

Peel 8 white carrots then carve with small knife into bone shape. Steam until al dente.

Black Bean Spaghetti with Arrabiata

Heat the sauce in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Toss spaghetti with sauce.

Serve spaghetti with chicken and carrots on “asphalt” (a large black platter or a slab of dark granite). Splatter with extra sauce for drama. Plastic rats are optional. So are utensils.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

DISH #1
Deviled Eyes Buried in Garlicky Black Bean Spaghetti Spoons

Deviled Eyes Buried in Garlicky Black Bean Spaghetti Spoons

To keep the VAMPIRES at bay, dish #1 is quite garlicky. BLACK spaghetti is tossed with olive oil, GARLIC, fresh herbs, red chile flakes and crumbled egg yolk, while EERIE eyeballs are flavored with GARLIC mayonnaise. BLOODSUCKERS BEWARE! Recipe here.

DISH #2
Spaghetti AFRAID-O with White Carrot Phalanges

Dish #2 is a downright DISTURBING meal where alfredo and marinara sauces depict DEATH or at the very least, some SEVERE INJURY as FINGER BONES are MANGLED among BLACK bean spaghetti. Recipe here.

Notes:

Many thanks to my talented friend Lauren for her help with this fun project!
